Details

KeenEar trains your musical ear and sense of rhythm: you hear a short prompt and play, sing or clap it back. Everything runs on your device.

• No data collection. The app does not collect or transmit any personal information, usage data, or analytics. It does not connect to any server we operate.
• Listening on the device. Your clapping, singing and playing are analysed on the device while you answer, then discarded. Audio is not stored. The only exception is a recording switch in the debug panel of test builds, which saves answers on the device when the tester turns it on. The App Store version has no debug panel.
• No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to.
• No third parties. There are no ads, no trackers, and no third-party SDKs.
• Local storage only. Your progress, settings and practice log live in the app’s sandbox on your device (and in the device backups you control). Deleting the app deletes them.

Microphone

KeenEar uses the microphone only during exercises, to hear your clapping, singing or instrument and score the answer. Before the system dialog appears, the app explains why it asks. If you refuse, every exercise that does not need the microphone still works, and the ones that do offer a way to Settings.

Bluetooth

KeenEar asks for Bluetooth only to pair Bluetooth MIDI keyboards you want to answer on. It does not look for or connect to anything else.

Practice log

KeenEar keeps a log of your exercise results and timings on the device. It stays in the app’s storage on your device: the App Store version cannot export or send it. Only test builds can export it, and then it leaves the device only when the tester sends it. It holds no audio and no name.

Write to us

“Write to us” in Settings opens your mail app with our address and the app version, device and system version filled in. We see only what you choose to send.

In-app purchase

KeenEar Pro is optional: the first 10 lessons are free, and Pro unlocks all 56. It is sold as an auto-renewable subscription, monthly or yearly (the yearly one with a 7-day free trial). Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store; the app never sees your payment details or Apple Account. Subscription status is kept by the App Store (so you can restore it on a new device) and cached on your device. Apple’s handling of purchase data is described in Apple’s own privacy policy.

TestFlight

When you test a build of KeenEar through TestFlight, Apple passes on the feedback and crash reports you choose to send. Apple’s privacy policy applies to those as well.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and, consistent with the above, collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL and the “Last updated” date will change.
