Kettlebell workouts built around you

A six-week plan, every lift on video, and a coach in your ear for every set and rest.

Strongbell is a kettlebell workout app for iPhone. Tell it your goal, your experience, how much time you have and which kettlebells you own, and it builds a six-week program around the answers: the hinge and the swing first, then squats, cleans, presses, rows and get-ups when you are ready for them. In every workout it shows the exercise, the reps and the bell of each set, times your rests, and a coach calls out what comes next — over your music, with the phone locked.

  • A plan for your goal, your days and your bells — heavier bells when you are ready
  • A coach’s voice through every set and rest, with the Lock Screen counting down
  • 23 kettlebell exercises on video, with steps and common mistakes
  • Swing practices: daily 100 swings, 10,000 swings, EMOM and ladder

A kettlebell plan built around you

No account to create. Answer a few questions and the first workout is ready.

  1. 1

Say what you want and what you have

Your goal, how much kettlebell practice you have, how many days a week and how many minutes, and which bells you own. Allow Apple Health and Strongbell reads your sex and age to suggest the bell you start with — or just answer.

  2. 2

    Get six weeks of workouts

Two weeks of base, two of build, two of push. Most days train your goal; the others cover what it leaves out. Today shows the next workout, its length, its exercises and its bell.

  3. 3

    Train set by set

The coach calls out every set and counts down the rests. Tap Set done when a set is finished. If the app closes mid-workout, it picks up where you stopped.

  4. 4

    Move up

Finish your sets as planned and Strongbell offers a heavier bell or more swings. After six weeks the next block starts denser — shorter rests, with your heavier bells.

Four kettlebell programs

Your goal picks the program. Each one runs six weeks and fits the workouts to your days and your minutes.

  • Swing Conditioning

    Burn fat

Swings are the workout: high reps, short rests, with mixed and strength days in between.

  • Strength Builder

    Get stronger

Slow, heavy reps, then a short run of swings to finish, with conditioning days in between.

  • Total Kettlebell

    Total fitness

A hinge, a squat or a press, and enough swings to finish warm: strength and conditioning through the week.

  • Kettlebell Foundations

    Learn kettlebells

Two weeks of learning the swing, the hinge first, before the other lifts come in.

A coach in your ear

Strongbell is built so you can put the phone down and train. The coach calls out every set, counts down the rests with tones and tells you what comes next.

  • Over your own music

The coach lowers your music while it speaks and never stops it.

  • With the phone locked

The workout goes on, and the Lock Screen shows the rest counting down, with a button for the set.

  • Every set on one screen

The exercise on video, the reps and the bell. Change either with − and +, then tap Set done.

Prefer quiet? Tap the speaker to silence the voice and the tones, or switch either off in Profile.

Swing practices

Outside the program, or on top of it: four swing sessions you can start any day.

  • Daily practice

100 swings and 10 get-ups. Short enough for most days. Squats stand in for the get-ups until you have practised them.

  • 10,000 swings

500 swings a session in five rounds of 10, 15, 25 and 50: ten thousand in 20 sessions, about four weeks.

  • Swing EMOM

A set of swings at the top of every minute; what is left of the minute is your rest.

  • Swing ladder

Up by five swings a set to the top you pick, then back down the same way.

Every swing adds up

Swings per week, week streaks, records, and volume by exercise and by bell — from the workouts you log.

  • Your own workouts

Sets, or a circuit done round after round with one bell, the way a complex is done.

  • Your history, your way

Open any workout to correct it, log one you did without the app, export them all as a spreadsheet (CSV), or share one as a picture.

  • On your Home Screen

Widgets show your next workout and your week, on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen. Ask Siri to start today’s workout.

  • Apple Health

Finished workouts can be saved to Health. Reminders on your training days, if you want them.

What size kettlebell to start with

These are the starting bells Strongbell suggests. Swings, deadlifts, squats, rows and carries take the heavier bell; presses, cleans, snatches, get-ups and other overhead or single-arm work the lighter one.

Women: presses, get-ups6 kg8 kg12 kg
Men: swings, squats16 kg20 kg24 kg

From 55, Strongbell starts one size lighter. The standard sizes go 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 and 32 kg; in pounds, 8 kg is about 18 lb, 12 kg about 26 lb, 16 kg about 35 lb, 20 kg about 44 lb and 24 kg about 53 lb. If you own bells, Strongbell uses the heaviest of yours that is not above its advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is Strongbell good for beginners?

Yes. Choose Learn kettlebells as your goal and the first two weeks teach the swing: the hinge first, then swings, then a couple of basics. Sets stay short for a beginner, and fast overhead lifts stay out until you know the shapes; squats, cleans, presses, rows and get-ups come in as you are ready for them. Every exercise has a video, written steps and the common mistakes to avoid, and Strongbell suggests a bell to start with.

What size kettlebell should I start with?

Strongbell starts a woman new to kettlebells at 8 kg for swings, deadlifts, squats, rows and carries, and 6 kg for presses, cleans, snatches and get-ups. A man new to kettlebells starts at 16 kg and 12 kg. With some practice it goes one size up (12 and 8 kg for women, 20 and 16 kg for men), with regular practice two (16 and 12 kg, 24 and 20 kg). From 55 it starts one size lighter. If you already own bells, it picks the heaviest of yours that is not above its advice.

Do I need more than one kettlebell?

No. Tell Strongbell which bells you own and it plans with them: for each exercise the heaviest of your bells that is not above its advice, or your lightest if all are heavier. Workouts use a heavier bell for swings, squats, deadlifts, rows and carries and a lighter one for presses, cleans, snatches and get-ups, so a second, lighter bell helps, and the workout says which ones to get. With no bell yet, it names the ones to buy.

How long are the workouts, and how many days a week?

You choose: 15, 20, 30 or 45 minutes a workout, 2 to 5 days a week. The six-week program fits the workouts to those answers, and you can change them in Profile. Reminders on your training days are optional.

Does Strongbell count my swings automatically?

No. Each set shows the reps and the bell it plans. When you finish the set, tap Set done; if you did more or fewer, change the number with − and + first. That one tap is all the logging there is.

Can I do the 10,000 swing challenge with Strongbell?

Yes. The 10,000 swings practice is 500 swings a session in five rounds of 10, 15, 25 and 50: ten thousand in 20 sessions, about four weeks. Strongbell keeps the total and the sessions done. The other swing practices are a daily practice of 100 swings and 10 get-ups, a swing EMOM and a swing ladder.

Does the coach work with my music and with the phone locked?

Yes. The coach lowers your music while it speaks and never stops it, and the workout goes on with your phone locked. The Lock Screen shows the rest counting down, with a button for the set. Tap the speaker in a workout to silence the voice and the countdown tones, or switch either off in Profile › Workout.

Can I make my own kettlebell workout or circuit?

Yes. Put together a workout from the 23 exercises, either as sets or as a circuit: one set of each exercise in turn, then a rest, round after round, the way a complex is done with one bell kept in hand.

Does Strongbell use kilograms or pounds?

Kilograms. The bells you can pick run from 4 to 40 kg. In pounds, 8 kg is about 18 lb, 12 kg about 26 lb, 16 kg about 35 lb, 20 kg about 44 lb and 24 kg about 53 lb.

Is there an Apple Watch app or an Android version?

No. Strongbell runs on iPhone with iOS 18 or later, and every workout runs on the iPhone alone. There is no Apple Watch app and no Android version.

Does Strongbell work with Apple Health?

Yes, if you allow it. Strongbell reads your sex and age to suggest the bell you start with, and saves each workout you finish to Health. It is optional: without it you answer those two questions yourself.

How much does Strongbell cost? Is there a free version?

Strongbell is free to download, and Strongbell Pro unlocks the app: your plan, every workout and practice, the exercise guides and your progress. It is $29.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $4.99 a month (£29.99 or £4.99 in the UK, €34.99 or €5.99 in the euro area). The app shows the price for your country before you subscribe. There is no free tier beyond the trial; cancel at least 24 hours before it ends and you are not charged.

How do I cancel the subscription?

In Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions on your iPhone, or in the app from Profile › Subscription › Manage subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period or the free trial ends. Strongbell Pro is tied to your Apple Account, so Restore brings it back on a new iPhone.

Does the app collect my data?

No. The App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”. There is no account and there are no ads. Your workouts are kept on your iPhone and in its backups, nowhere else, and you can export them as a spreadsheet (CSV).

Is kettlebell training with Strongbell safe for me?

Strongbell is not medical advice. Check with a doctor before you start a new training program, learn every movement slowly before you add speed or weight, and stop if something hurts.
