KeenEar collects no data. None.
KeenEar trains your musical ear and sense of rhythm: you hear a short prompt and play, sing or clap it back. Everything runs on your device.
KeenEar uses the microphone only during exercises, to hear your clapping, singing or instrument and score the answer. Before Android asks for the permission, the app explains why it needs it. If you refuse, every exercise that does not need the microphone still works, and the ones that do offer a way to the app’s settings.
KeenEar asks for the “Nearby devices” permission only to find and connect Bluetooth MIDI keyboards you want to answer on. It looks only for MIDI devices, connects to nothing else, and never uses Bluetooth to determine your location. On Android 11 and older, Android requires the location permission for any Bluetooth scan; KeenEar still does not read your location.
KeenEar keeps a log of your exercise results and timings on the device. It stays in the app’s storage on your device: the Google Play version cannot export or send it. Only test builds can export it, and then it leaves the device only when the tester sends it. It holds no audio and no name.
“Write to us” in Settings opens your mail app with our address and the app version, device and Android version filled in. We see only what you choose to send.
KeenEar Pro is optional: the first 10 lessons are free, and Pro unlocks all 56. It is sold as an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly (the yearly one with a 7-day free trial). Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play; the app never sees your payment details or Google Account. Subscription status is kept by Google Play (so it follows your Google Account to a new device) and cached on your device. You can manage or cancel the subscription in the Google Play Store under Payments & subscriptions. Google’s handling of purchase data is described in Google’s privacy policy.
The app is suitable for all ages and, consistent with the above, collects no data from anyone, including children.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL and the “Last updated” date will change.
