Loopy Letters School — Help and Contact

Loopy Letters School helps children practice US and UK handwriting on iPhone and iPad, with a finger or with Apple Pencil on a compatible iPad. It is the English edition of Plumélio École, which also teaches French cursive and, from version 1.2, the school handwriting of eight more European countries; on the App Store you find it as Loopy Letters School in English and as Plumélio École in French.

Which handwriting does it teach?

By default the app follows the device language: US handwriting in English, UK handwriting in English with a UK region, and French cursive in French. Choose US handwriting, UK handwriting, Écriture française, one of the other European collections or Automatic during onboarding or in Settings → Handwriting and language. The app’s language follows the handwriting. It remembers the last style in each collection and keeps stars, the notebook, stickers and recent texts separately for each.

US handwriting

Most US schools teach one of three families of handwriting styles, and the app has all three, each with its own print and cursive, on primary paper with a blue headline, a dashed midline and a red baseline:

Pick your school’s style in Settings → Handwriting style, and switch between Print and Cursive at the top of the Home screen. Stars are kept separately for each. Programs may shape a few letters differently; follow your child’s teacher.

In cursive, dots and the crosses of t and x come after the whole word, and each style joins its own set of capitals to the next letter. For the UK models, choose the UK collection in Settings.

UK handwriting

The UK collection follows handwriting conventions used in England: Print, Selected joins and Joined, on four-line guides. Capitals remain separate. Settings offers alternative f, q and t forms; follow the model your child’s teacher uses. British-English words and speech accompany this collection. Schools in the other UK nations may teach different conventions.

French cursive

The French collection teaches the joined cursive of French schools on Seyès ruling, with accents, French words and French speech. In this collection the app is in French and is called Plumélio École.

Other European school handwriting

From version 1.2 the app also includes the school handwriting of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Italy and Spain. Each collection is entirely in its own language, with its own words and speech, and the app takes that country’s school name. Every exercise is included in each one. Help pages in each language:

How does an exercise work?

Watch shows where to start and the direction and order of each stroke. In Trace, the child follows the model from the dot. In Write, the child tries without the model and earns stars for the shape, the start, the direction, the pencil lifts and a steady hand. Stars are a guide, not a grade; keep practicing on paper too.

Is everything included?

Yes. Loopy Letters School is paid up front with every exercise included from the first launch: warm-ups, numbers, print and cursive letters, letter pairs, words, the child’s name and your own text. There is no in-app purchase or subscription. Exercises and the notebook work offline.

How does a school deploy the app?

In Apple School Manager → Apps and Books, search for Loopy Letters School and get as many licenses as you need; schools buying 20 or more get the education price. Whoever manages your devices can then assign the app to iPads with your device management service. Every install includes everything, with no student account and no purchase on the student’s iPad.

To reinstall the app or move it to another device, contact the person who manages your school’s licenses. Buying and installing need a connection; the exercises then work offline. Families can also buy this edition on the App Store with a personal account.

How is it different from Loopy Letters?

The exercises are the same as in Loopy Letters, the English edition of Plumélio, with Everything unlocked. The school edition includes everything in the price of the app so schools can buy it in volume. On the App Store it is Plumélio École; on a device set to English it is called Loopy Letters School. It is a separate app: the purchase and notebook of Loopy Letters do not carry over.

How do I practice my child’s name or my own text?

Enter the name in Settings → Child’s name, or add it in Words, where it appears first. In Words → Your own text you can type up to 20 characters, spaces included. In the US and UK collections only the letters A–Z and spaces can be written; names with accents, hyphens or apostrophes can be written in the French collection. Numbers are practiced in their own section.

Apple Pencil and left-handed writers

On a compatible iPad, turn on Settings → Apple Pencil only so only the Pencil tip writes and the palm can rest on the screen. Turn it off to write with a finger. Left-handed moves the controls to the other side so the hand does not cover them. You can also pick the paper size and switch sounds, read-aloud and Penny the Pencil on or off.

How do I see or reset progress?

Notebook shows the best attempts and how the writing improves. Settings → Reset progress deletes stars, history, stickers and notebook pages of the selected handwriting; the other collections, the name, recent texts and settings stay. Settings → Clear recent texts empties the list of recent texts of the selected handwriting. Before the next child uses a shared iPad, reset progress, clear recent texts and remove the name in Settings; if the child also used another collection, clear that one too. To delete all data on the device, delete the app. Apple backups are managed separately. See the privacy policy for details.
