KeenEar — Support

Hear it, then play, sing or clap it back.

Čeština · Deutsch

KeenEar trains your musical ear and sense of rhythm in short daily lessons. You hear a prompt and answer by tapping, clapping, singing, playing an instrument through an iRig, or on MIDI keys, and the app tells you right away what went well. Everything runs on your device. There is no account and nothing is uploaded to us. The first 10 lessons are free; KeenEar Pro unlocks all 56.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the app ask for the microphone?

To hear your clapping, singing or instrument and score the answer. The sound is analysed on the device and not stored. If you refused it, turn it on in the iOS Settings app → KeenEar → Microphone. An exercise that needs the microphone also offers a button that opens these settings. Tapping and the on-screen keyboard work without it.

My taps seem late with Bluetooth headphones

Bluetooth headphones delay the sound. For rhythm, wired headphones or the phone’s speaker are the most accurate. If you use Bluetooth, open Settings → Sound check and tap Calibrate: you tap along with a few clicks and the app measures the delay of that headphone.

The score feels unfair

Tap “I sang it correctly” or “I played it correctly” under the score. That tells the app, and us, that you disagree, and the exercise counts as passed. We use these answers to make the scoring fairer.

Can I answer on a MIDI keyboard or a guitar?

Yes. Connect a MIDI keyboard by USB (or pair one over Bluetooth) and melodies are played on its keys. A guitar or bass can be plugged in through an iRig or another USB audio interface. Choose how you answer in Settings → How you answer: voice, keys, guitar, bass or no instrument.

The note names are not the ones I know

Settings → Note names offers C D E F G A H (Czech and German), C D E F G A B (English) and do re mi fa sol la ti. In solmization “do” is the tonic of the exercise, so a melody keeps its names in any key.

The lessons are too easy

Settings → Find my level runs a short test of rhythm and notes, about four minutes. Lessons you already know are marked as done and you continue at your level: Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. Nothing you have done is undone.

How do I start over?

Your progress is stored only on the device. To delete it, delete the app. Settings → Show the introduction again lets you pick how you answer and the note names again without losing progress.
